I really want to get this mobile "for the baby" which means for me. Having a baby is like getting an imaginary friend who can make demands. You can say things like "I'm fine with either car seat but the baby would like..." It's a cheap trick and I try to avoid using it but I might not be able to resist for such a cool mobile. I love, I mean the baby loves swallows! And aren't they the perfect color for a newborn's inept eyes?

I love your comparison of the baby being like an imaginary friend. hilarious. I remember rationalizing that the baby wanted cookies when I was pregnant...
and that mobile does look awesome. good contrast for a newborn.
of course your kiddo will love birds. if not by nature, by nurture.

I am here to tell you that your baby not only wants a mobile like this, but will greatly benefit from it. I have used two different mobiles over the years (one is butterflies with lots of black and brights and one is dragonflies) and they have been mesmerizing, soothing, interesting, and- I'm convinced- brain-building. They love them, really. Especially a free-flowing unpredictable one like this.
Hang it over the crib or the changing station and watch them begin to track the motion. You can almost see the synapses firing!
That looks like a great mobile--good choice! And Reuben will like the things you like because you will teach him what is interesting and fun and beautiful. He's going to have great taste...thanks to his talented Mommy.
...and soon he will be a REAL "friend" who makes very, very real demands, though not the fun kind you can pin on him now. I love the mobile, too, and so do all my future children, for the record.

Oh Katy. It's so true! My favorite line that I had was always in response to Jeff asking why I was eating so much of something. I'd say, "the baby said he's hungry." :) Good times.
