You might be a monkey if...

I'm currently in SC hanging out with Abby while my parents fly out for my Grandpa Bob's 80th birthday bash. (Happy Birthday Grandpa Bob!!) I've been working a fair bit but when I've fed Reuben I've had the chance to enjoy my parents satellite tv.

I've mainly been watching UC TV which is the University of California's television station. They broadcast recordings of their conferences and seminars. It's really interesting stuff. I've learned about Technology for energy independence, The grid in the 21st century, human evolution, middle east diplomacy etc.

My favorite moment was when I turned the tv on and a guy was in the middle of his explanation on the research on differences between humans and chimps. He had a slide that said human, chimp differences. But the way he was presenting it made it seem like it was for self examination. Apparently you might be more of a chimp than a human if:

your wounds heal quickly
you have no chin
you experience easy child birth
you have relatively high muscular-skeletal strength
(there were a few more conditions that I can't remember now)

According to the same lecture, chimps and humans are the only organisms that have loving grandparent-grandchild relationships. I thought that was cool but I still don't like monkeys.

oh katy, one day you'll learn to love monkeys. and then you'll look back on all the years you spent hating them and feel so bad.

I KNEW having an easy labor and delivery made me somehow less human and more...something. I guess that "something" is monkey. Glad to know.
