I'll Be Home For Christmas

I've always wanted to spend Christmas somewhere far far away. At the top of my list are Brazil, Italy, the Holy Land or Paris. I like the idea of bringing in the holiday with street parties and a midnight mass in a giant cathedral. But I wouldn't mind if I woke up somewhere calm and tropical like Hawaii or Indonesia.

This year it looks like I'll be home for Christmas which is just fine. But one day I hope I won't be.

I am happy you will be home for Christmas. I want to visit many of the places you mentioned, but not at Christmas.

Germany looks like a good place for Christmas (except for being cold - ha!). Looks like they go a little crazy over it there. Is that right Jenny?

Oh yeah! I'd love Germany at Christmas time. I can't believe I forgot to mention that one. We should go next year Aunt Joan, you can be my tranlator ;)

Adam and I supplemented one year by attending a local midnight mass at an old church downtown - Lutheran, I believe. It was a really nice way to spend the remainder of Christmas Eve; the music was absolutely gorgeous.

Eric and I dream of going to Italy for Christmas. Let's plan for a Cummings/Watts Italian Christmas in 2020!

That would be so neat to visit the Holy Land over Christmas, I've always wanted to! Gregory has gone, maybe I will too someday! ah... I'd take any of those places right now though.

One of my most memorable Christmases was when I was about 16 - I went with my friend Bob and his mom to Christmas Eve midnight mass at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in DC. Even though it was close to home, it gave me an other-worldly Christmas experience, that felt from another time and place. Too bad I can't stay up that late anymore.
