Gustav Tenggren

I really like the illustrator Gustav Tenggren. He's a master of gouache. You may be familiar with his work. He illustrated The Pokey Little Puppy and The Scrawny Tawny Lion. He also did a lot of work for Disney and loved illustrating fairy tales. You can see some illustrations for his book Arabian Nights here.

I loved the Pokey Little Puppy as a child - my grandmother had a copy that used to be my dads and she'd always read it to us. Those Arabian Nights illustrations are amazing!

Hi Katy!

It is Brenda from upstairs. Was viewing the Sorensen's new house (Jess told me about it). Wanted to peek at a fellow artist's blog and have enjoyed yours immensely! Gustav Tenggren was a favorite in books for me growing up. Then in college graphic/illustration classes his work from "Arabian Nights" was often referenced. We did a piece with gouache; based on the alphabet in "Animalia".

I love the art/artists that you share on your blog, Katy. "Artist of the Week" is another thing I think I want to do for the classroom blog I will start next year, and I'll probably be taking a few pages out of your book, so to speak.
Thanks for the recommendation about the documentary--I will be sure to check that one out! Let me know of any other suggestions or ideas you and Aaron have...between those two minds, I would take anything you have to offer!

I was having a night of incurable insomnia, and I happened to find your blog :) The Pokey Little Puppy was my favorite book when I was little. Thanks for the reminder.
