Since starting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows I have become terrified of children. This is not because I am afraid the precocious young characters' habit of attacking adults will rub off on "Muggle" children. No. This is because by now, most children in this country have finished the 700+ page behemoth of a book and are eager to discuss it. Sadly, I have not. Most of them received their book Friday around midnight. The ones with lazy or insensitive parents got theirs Saturday. Mine landed on my doorstep just as I was stepping out to work on Monday morning. I still have 200 pages to go and I REALLY want to enjoy every twist and turn. I do NOT want to learn the ending by overhearing a conversation or being asked wasn't is sad when....? I'm so afraid that will happen that I considered staying home from work and just reading all day.
(Many of my coworkers who have never read Harry Potter read the last ten pages just to know what happens and are now a threat as well. That's childish so I'm lumping them in with the kid threat.)
So if you know me and you have read Harry Potter, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't tell me what happens!

Ron and Harry die and Hermione turns to the dark side and marries Draco. Snape presides at their wedding. Then they take down Voldemort together and usher in their own rein of terror.
I just couldn't believe that Harry turned into a cross dresser!
I stayed up until 3am reading the last chapters. Big mistake. I can hardly stay awake at the meetings. Also, the session director has made it "Taboo" to discuss the book in any contexts, as he hasn't finished the last half of the book. I am glad that I finished it before all the kids got here though, because I don't know of any that have the book that haven't finished it yet. I was probably most shocked at the death of.. oh, wait, maybe the session director is reading this, hmm
I empathize, Katy, being in the same situation...only a few pages farther behind. It seems to be everywhere I go! Adam even looked up the book's summary on Wikipedia - so HE knows what happens too.
Phew, I finished! Horray for Harry Potter!
