As the holiday season rolls around the tension builds. Then we have a spat, then another, then an argument and finally a full on FIGHT. My family? Or His Family? For which holiday? For how long? But what about last year? What about the coming year? It makes me agree with Ferdinand, the anorexic duck, from the movie Babe* "Christmas Means Carnage!"
*Babe is one of my all time favorite movie. Ferdinand's whole speech goes:"Christmas? Christmas means dinner, dinner means death! Death means carnage; Christmas means carnage!"

I'm sorry
aww, babe. how i've missed you. that's another movie we need to add to our collection for Eliza to experience.
yeah, i never anticipated that the holidays would inspire so much DRAMA! I guess where there's love there are also strong feelings attached. i agreed to work on thanksgiving so that stifled that potential "discussion."
bah-humbug (sp?) jk.
Don't worry, we promise to still acknowledge you all as part of the Family even if you don't visit for Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Ha ha, your family might be willing to still see me as part of the family but I'm pretty sure Aaron wouldn't.
It can be hard to negotiate these things. Eric's brother who is engaged is going through the same thing right now. You can try all you want to be perfectly fair to each family, but it never quite works out that way.
My favorite Christmas so far (since getting married) was actually the one we spent at home with just our little family. It was the year Sawyer was born, and although we missed our extended families, there was something really wonderful about having a quiet day with just us.
Tough stuff. It is hard to strike that balance, isn't it? We have it easy in that both our families live in the same town. Our plan? Two Thanksgiving dinners. That's right. We have done it only once before...the Thanksgiving before we got engaged. I'm going to start fasting a week ahead of time to prepare.
I'm SO lucky in that I have a wonderful mother-in-law that just says "We'll be happy whenever we get you" each time Christmas plans come up. Good luck, Katy!
seriously, it's such a dilemma. We mentioned the idea of ditching all families and going to Hawaii, you guys could join in.
Hey, if Aaron disowns you, he's not invited next Christmas...
I'd just like to see my sister for one holiday. I think our family would be more understanding to Katy's food preferences or "dis-preferences." But, it is Robby's last year on his mission...
Whatever y'all decide.(As if I have any say in the decision ;).)Love you!
