This week at the UVA Soccer game the ticket seller asked me if I was under 18. Sigh... I told them, No, I was over the age of 18 and had been for quite a while. And then I started to think about just how long it has been since I was eighteen. That was SIX years ago.
That made me feel old, like I was watching my oh so finite life slip away before my eyes. Then I started to think about what some of the people I respect and admire had done by the time they were my age. Zadie Smith had published White Teeth. Orson Wells was making Citizen Cane, it came out when he was 25. Beatrix Potter had built a reputation as an expert mycologist. I have ...gotten a job. Which is good, I guess.

I have been thinking the same thing. What have I done with my 25 years on the earth? It gets a little depressing to think of the music Mozart wrote when he was 5, or the many things that people my age or younger have accomplished. Then again, I come to thinking, I have accomplished at least one thing, not being an evil world dictator, so, at least one thing is going my way... Yeah me! Also, I mildly feel better when I see 35 year old men playing video games. I know I'm not really better than them, but it does make me feel better...
It's a good thing for people to think you're younger than you are! The closer I get to 30, the more I appreciate getting carded when I buy wine (for cooking, by the way.)
Dan, Are you referring to my husband? :)
Just think Kayt, when we are 50 and people are still asking us if we are 25, we will feel great. Last summer (06), when I was pregnant with Noelle, a little old lady asked me if I was...17.years.old. And to make it worse, I worked at a garden center, so I didn't wear my wedding ring. Everyone thought I was in high school and pregnant. Alas, I was well on my way to 26. That's almost 10 years off. Can I really appear that young? I like to think of of as a blessing, not a curse. For now anyway.
