Elephant Carrying

You know that story about the little boy who has a pet elephant? When the elephant is born he is so small the boy can carry him without any trouble. The boy continues to carry the elephant each day and consequently grows into a man who can carry a full grown elephant.

Having Miriam has made me realize I've been carrying an elephant around. Reuben is a solid 35 lbs. I haven't thought much of his weight since I've been carrying him since he was a measly six lbs. But now I have little Miriam to compare him to and I've realized the boy is HEAVY. It doesn't mean I get to stop carrying my elephant. From recent events, it looks like I'll now be carrying two elephants around.

When I'm done with this my arms are going to be awesome. Or so bizarrely muscled I can join the circus.

Ditto that! That happened with my 2nd and also my 3rd, because now when I pick up my almost 5 year old it's killer! And my 2 1/2 year old's hips and ankles and feet seemed huge. They grow like ten pounds when you bring the baby home, not really, but it seems so! Crazy, eh?!

I completely felt the same way. It was even worse when P was born because E was 4 and we still carry him from time to time. I thought to myself, wow, you are so light...every time I picked up P.

Or freaking assymetrically buff like that guy in "Lady in the Water" who only worked out one side of his body - can't remember why - but that's what I think about whenever I try to hold Poppy with my right arm which is weak like a little girl because I have been holding kids with my left arm for five years (so I can do stuff with the right, like unlock the door, stir the spaghetti, type the blogger verification word, etc.)

I had great forearms by the time Robby was one...that was a lot of lifting and he was a healthy boy!
