Miss You

So for the next two to three days I’ll be enjoying the glory of middle America. I’m So Excited! In the doubtful case that any of you miss me, here’s a tasty tid-bit for you to savor during my absence. It’s the Challenger album from the New Pornographers. And it’s not as bad a name as it seems. A 1950s evangelist Jimmy Swaggart declared music to be the new pornography thus this Canadian band identifies themselves as the new pornographers. The music itself is crystal clean. REALLY. You can listen to it here.

Though I haven't listened to their new album, I did listen to Electric Version and I found it to be very repetitive and annoying. They felt very amature, I will at some point give this one a chance, but I have to wait until I can actually give it a chance.

They have a very awkward name. It makes me think of the Barenaked Ladies (BNL) who wrote such innocuous songs as "If I had a million dollars" and "Pinch Me." The choice of name is certainly unfortunate, but the music is much tamer than most.

my mom told me a story that when she was helping out in a classroom some kids wanted to listen to music during recess. When she saw that the group was bare naked ladies she made them turn it off because she thought it was bad. Then later she found out that it was just a silly name and the music was not bad. Ah, generation gaps.
