Broad Winged Hawk

It looks like spring has truly come to Charlottesville. It's gorgeous today. I was out walking this morning and I saw a fair sized bird fly over the law school. I noticed it was carrying something and as it came closer I realized it had a very long snake in it's talons. The bird flew directly over me with the snake still wriggling, trying to get away. The bird has these beautifully sharp black and white bands on its tail feathers and was lightly colored underneath so I'm pretty sure it was a broad winged hawk just like in this picture. It was amazing to see and I think I'll take it as a good omen as Aaron's last final season begins.

All that was needed was for it to land on a cactus and devour he serpent and then the sign of the new Aztec Empire would be given... shame. Haha. That's what a Latin American Studies major does for you...

I thought of that. I think the hawk was probably flying in the direction of our future home. He was flying a South Southwest path.

And I think he could have possibly been a red shouldered hawk. I'm trying to figure out how to tell the two apart. They look pretty similar.

Heading towards the south sounds good to me. I am so excited for you, two! You have worked hard to get through law school.

That's cool that you saw that! I'm just glad the snake didn't drop on your head. Wait - where are you guys headed?
