It's short. A mere 208 pages of short stories. Each one is beautiful, poignant, revealing, worth reading a thousand times. I love The Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri. I think I've owned five copies by now, but I can't help giving it away. If in the last days of your summer you find yourself with some reading time, pick it up and let me know what you think.
To whet your appetite you can listen to an abridged version of one of the stories, This Blessed House. It describes a young, newly married couple trying to reconcile their unexpected differences in an old house full of surprises. You can listen to it in Act 2, which starts in the 23rd minute, here.

Thanks! I have been reading a lot this summer and I am always ready for a good recommendation.

I just read The Namesake and was a bit disappointed, so maybe this will be a better read. We shall see.
It's a very honest book this "Interpreter of Maladies." Be warned. If you read it with your spouse, it may lead to a frank discussion about your relationship. That can be a good thing...in a cathartic sort of way. I do think this is a great book.
I did like the Namesake but I enjoyed Interpreter much more.
I just found your blog through the Durst's site. I'm a fan.
