1 Month Miriam

One month has flown by. Miriam is a sweet tempered, fun baby. She is an incredible sleeper. She can sleep through anything, anywhere - fire engines, thunderstorms, dogs howling, the cat jumping on her, her brother yelling, her brother giving her love "pats" But she insists on being awake from 11 pm-2:30 am. She's my little owl.

So I've been catching up on my night time television. Everybody Hates Chris is a funny show. So is The Choir. I've been enjoying Star Trek reruns too.

Since her birth I have also read Parrot and Olivier in America by Steve Carey, The Lost Continent by Bill Bryson, Jack Maggs by Steve Carey, the three Hunger Game books and I am almost finished with The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman which I recommend. I think there may have been one or two more books but my memory is a little hazy. I'll probably finish The Spirit Catches You today so if you have a good book recommendation I would love to hear it.

Anyway, back to Miriam. She's got a lot of hair which I have no idea what to do with besides laugh at when it sticks up all over. She started out wonderfully small at 7.5 but is now a healthy 12 lbs. She's crazy tall too, over 23 inches. That puts her in the 97% for height and weight. And she has a big beautiful smile.

I'm not sure how well you can see it in this picture but she raises her eyebrow like Spock when you catch her interest which I love. Maybe she's got some Romulan in her.

Fascinating.

Wow. That went fast. She is gorgeous and that's so fun she has been smiling since day 1. Makes that night wake time a little more bearable. I'm so glad you're reading The Spirit Catches You. I recommend the Mary Russell series by Lorie King - the first is The Beekeeper's Apprentice. Smart female lead. I have just gotten the first book in another mystery series (Flavia de Luce) called The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. Strangely, I'm not getting alot of reading done. Are the other Hunger Games books worth reading? I've only read the first. Someday you and/or I will be able to leave the house and we'll see each other again.

Wowzers. What are you feeding that child, growth hormones?! ;) Between her and Reuban I think you must be one buff lady. You've read more in a month than I have in a year. hehehe.

Kari - I'll look up the King books. I'm excited. Is it really about bees? I got in a lengthy conversation with a few bee keepers at the SC fair and I've been wanting to know more.

As for the Hunger Games, I think the first was the best. The other two were -Meh. But I read each in about a day so they were good enough to make that happen. Good for a little gratuitous violence. And I liked that Katniss was a fairly strong female lead. I appreciated that.

I happened to read the series the same time Miriam wouldn't sleep and Gladiator came on TV, then Tombstone, then the Fox and the Hound so I'm having so crazy violent dreams. ( I consider the Fox and the Hound the most disturbing. Thank goodness it wasn't Bambi)

Sarah H - I'm hoping one day I'll be buff but for now I think I'm closer to exhausted :)
