Farewell Friberg

Arnold Friberg passed away this week. I wish him a fond farewell. As a kid, Friberg's paintings of the Book of Mormon were my favorite. I loved the action, the costumes, the absence of frilly flowers and cutesy kids hugging one another. They made it clear that The Book of Mormon was exciting and there was a lot of blood and drama to be enjoyed if you could find the right Primary teacher.

Friberg's picture that really illustrates the bloodiness is the one where Mormon is laying on the ground, surrounded by dead people and looking out on the slain of his people and mourning that they didn't repent. That painting always struck me as being so melancholy so I remember skipping over it when I flipped through the pictures in my copy of the Book of Mormon. Now that I mention this painting I am not positive if it was done by Arnold Friberg, I just know it is in the book with all those other ones you shared, so I might be making a wrong assumption. Oh well. Glad you like his work too!

Oh yah, that's classic Friberg goodness. I loved that picture as a kid. I always wanted Moroni's hat.
