I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to classical music, but I do enjoy it. I like to listen to it when I have something I want to think out. And I LOVE classical Christmas music.
It's become tradition for Aaron and me to turn on WGMS 103.5, DC's classical music station, to start our holiday season. We keep it continuously streaming until Christmas. But this year, when we tried to initiate our celebration, WGMS was not to be found. It shut down. Tragic!
Thankfully Classical WETA 90.9 decided to try to help fill the gaping hole left in our lives. This week until Thanksgiving they are playing their listeners' top 90 most requested Classical pieces. They have promised to follow that up with some good seasonal pieces. I am enjoying #80, Beethoven's Symphony #4. I thought some of you might enjoy listening in at some point. You can stream it from here.

If you're looking for some great classical Christmas music, I recommend Bach's Christmas Oratorio. It's SO beautiful and has a lot of variety. Here is an excerpt with Korean subtitles:

Also, if you're feeling slightly adventurous, Messiaen's The Nativity of Our Lord, a series of nine wonderful meditations on the Christ Child (performed on organ)--you can watch one of them, "The Shepherds" here:

(skip to 0:56, the first minute is a not very exciting interview)
We miss WGMS too. I am glad that WETA is taking over. I've already started listening to classical Christmas on XM, love it. (XM radio = best invention ever!)
Katy! We totally need to talk. Unfortunately neither one of our blogs show email addresses (unless I'm missing something very significant). Email me... sartaber@gmail.com.
PS: Cool blog.
