Political Hangover

Waking up was really hard to do this morning because Aaron and I staid up to watch the Iowa Caucus results come in. By 11:00 I found myself thinking, Give your speeches Now! I am a working American and I need my sleep. An hour later I was glad I'd staid up. I think this election is becoming really exciting.

I have mixed feelings about Huckabee winning. I like the influence his rise has had on the race. I think it's pressured the Republicans to show a little more "compassionate conservatism." But I don't think he'd make the most qualified or capable leader. We already had a president devoid of international diplomacy skills and it was bad news. I don't buy his tax plan. I don't like that:
He doesn't support any kind of amnesty plan.
He opposes gun control based on geography.
He hates on Mormons.
He doesn't believe in evolution.
A lot of his support seems to come from Chuck Norris.
And as a low blow, his son hung a dog at scout camp for fun.
But no one's perfect and I like him a lot better than Giuliani. And even if he doesn't believe in evolution, he does support energy independence so he's not all bad. But I wouldn't vote for him.
I was glad McCain pulled in 13%. I'm eager to see how New Hampshire plays out.

On the other side, I was happy to see Obama win. Did anyone else see his speech? It made me think there might really be a chance to get away from party politics and watch the country regain some faith in the political process. I know all you enlightened Republicans are eagerly preparing your snide responses, but I find Obama's attitude refreshing.

What kills me is when I flipped on the morning news today, who's story was on the radio? Romney, Huckabee, Clinton, Obama? No, the all important Brittany Spears. She's plastered on the front of CNN's "Breaking News" page too. It makes me feel sick. WHO cares? Why are some washed up bimbo's breakdowns as importance as the election of the next American president. It's disgraceful. Something is WRONG with this country.

I am so happy about Obama winning, I want Obama to win the whole thing. I was very surprised that Paul beat out Giuliani, but I'm still glad he's not nearly close to the others as he's the one I'm most scared about. Though I don't really care who the republicans choose as long as Obama wins it all. :D

I think the reason Brittney Spears was on was because that's what a lot of peole want to know about, so that's what's told. It stinks, but makes sense.

I don't appreciate Huckabee. Did you see the political cartoon where Huckabee is shown in the first pane and he says I want to lift the campaign away from the negative,so... and then the next pane shows him saying I won't mention that my opponent belongs to a cult and is a zealot, etc, etc. Ron says that it might be good if Huckabee won the Republican nomination because then the Democrats will have an easier chance. What do you think?

I liked Senator Dodd. I'm disappointed that he didn't do well.
