Work Out Time

Like probably everyone else, this new year I resolved to work a little harder on being fit. After a bad ankle sprain in the woods and some cold weather I've been putting in some major gym time.

Up until now I've preserved my work out time as "unplugged" time. No headphones, no ipod, no screen, it was supposed to be some real quality thought time. On the beautiful wooded trails of Charlottesville that's not too difficult. With such a serene setting I enjoyed the chance to let my thoughts wander uninterrupted by distracting "media." I thought through problems, came up with ideas for drawings and paintings, just relaxed and tried to use my brain. It was a good time.

I've quickly realized that isn't possible at the gym. In front of each work out machine the TVs flash commercials and news and the radio blares over the speaker system. Since I'm going to be plugged, in that case I rather have it be MY selected media. So I succumbed and splurged on an Ipod shuffle clip. It came today. Woo-hoo!

I began to work on my "Work Out Playlist." I do believe that work out music falls under a whole different set of standards, still I was happy that no one else had to see my selections. Then I remembered that I had made the Itune purchases on Aaron's account so he would get to see all of them. So now that the cat's out of the bag here's the list

Marcy Playground - Coming Up From Behind (My Favorite Pump up song, I listened to it before soccer games in the glory days)
Blur- Song 2
Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten
Okkervil River - Our Life is Not a Movie
Shakira - Whatever, Wherever
Eminem - Lose Yourself
Stars - Take Me To the Riot
Survivor - Eye of The Tiger
Final Countdown-Europe

Anyone have any more suggestions?

I know that no one else might like them, but I like listening to the Jonas Brothers. Sadly, they are a teenage GIRL pop sensation and are judged by their looks usually. I also like the songs "War" and "Click, Click." I also find that if I have something I really want to think about, I think about and don't really listen to my music.

I know exactly what you mean, I currently have a clip on ipod shuffle specifically for working out, along with my big 30 gig one. When it comes to working out, I need a mix of hard pumping songs that will keep me fired up and quick danceable tunes keeping me happy. Here's the best of the best from my list.

The Chemical Brothers -- The Boxer
Dragonforce -- Through The Fire and Flames
The Fall of Troy -- F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X.
The Flaming Lips -- Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 1
Flight of the Conchords -- It's Business Time
Gogol Bordello -- 60 Revolutions
k-os -- Flypaper
Keller Williams -- Blatant Ripoff
The Lab Rats -- Devil's Train
Lyrics Born -- The Last Trumpet
The Mars Volta -- Day of the Baphomets
Moloko -- Pure Pleasure Seeker
Outkast -- Bombs Over Baghdad
Pigeon John -- Higher?!
The Pillows -- Thank You, My Twilight
Rodrigo y Gabriela -- Diablo Rojo
Royskopp -- Please Stay
Soul Coughing -- Super Bon Bon
Ween -- Ocean Man

I really like to workout to the "I would walk 500 miles" song by the Proclaimers. I don't think that's the songs real title, but you know what I'm talking about, right?

I LOVE my clip on ipod shuffle. Landon bought me one for Mother's Day last year and had it engrave with, "Shake what your mama gave you". Very romantic and heartfelt. One of my favorite work out songs is Justin Timberlake's "Rock Your Body". Is that lame?

No new suggestions, but I just wanted to reaffirm your good taste in "Eye of the Tiger." I plan to have that playing when I'm going into labor.
